Northwest River Natural Area Preserve (Chesapeake)
Launch your kayak or paddle board from the banks of the Northwest River as you explore one of the largest natural area preserves in Coastal Virginia. Remnants of the Great Dismal Swamp, this destination is one of our most popular locations providing endless miles of water, tall towering cypress trees providing shelter from the wind, abundant wildlife and an identical ecosystem as the Great Dismal Swamp. 200 species of migratory birds pass through the area with 97 nesting species. Great Blue Heron, belted kingfishers, turkeys, woodpeckers, osprey, bald eagles, green herons and barred owls are often spotted in the area. Whitetail deer, black bear, bobcat, river otter and beaver also call this ancient cypress forest their home. This is the perfect adventure to immerse yourself in natural surroundings and is suitable for all ages and skill levels.

“We had a great time on our kayak tour. Kevin was an AWESOME guide. His knowledge of not only kayaking but the local wildlife and the history of the area is outstanding. We not only had fun but we learned a few things too. I would highly recommend them if you are looking to kayak in the Virginia Beach area. 5 stars for sure!!!
