Cape Charles/Eastern Shore National Wildlife Refuge
Launch from the boat ramp at the Eastern Shore of Virginia Wildlife Refuge, paddle through the salt marsh of Raccoon Island, then cross Magothy Bay, crossing Blackbeard’s Creek and land on the deserted beaches of Smith Island. Relax on the beach, eat lunch and collect from a vast array of shells (including: whelk, scallop, clam, sand dollars and many more). Or choose to paddle up the western coast of Smith Island/Cape Charles stopping to explore the Cape Charles lighthouse and World War II watchtowers. Then return across the Magothy Bay to the boat ramp. The tour includes approximately 4 hours of actual paddle time over the entire trip. Advanced reservations required. Trip times and availability are dependent on tide schedule.
** Eastern Shore Adventures are guided tours and include all of the equipment needed for the tour (kayak, paddle, and life vest), a paddle demonstration, help getting in and out of the surf zone,information about the area and photography(tour pictures are free to download and share).
